Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre Reopens Following Major Redevelopment
We are delighted to announce that the Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre has officially reopened after an exciting three-year redevelopment project, designed to enhance the visitor experience and expand our museum facilities.
The journey began in 2023, with plans shaped by invaluable feedback from our community. This collaborative approach formed part of a successful application to Wychavon Council’s Community Legacy Grant programme. Thanks to this funding, we have been able to extend the Centre into the existing undercroft and thoughtfully reconfigure our internal spaces to better showcase Droitwich Spa’s rich history.
This ambitious project has been made possible through the dedication and support of local councillors, professional partners, and, most importantly, our incredible volunteers. Their commitment ensured that the Heritage Centre remained open for the majority of the redevelopment, closing fully for just three weeks.
Heritage Manager Rebecca Butler reflected on the achievement:
“This redevelopment has been three years in the making and has truly been a labour of love. From the very beginning, community feedback played a vital role in shaping the new Heritage Centre, and we are incredibly grateful to Wychavon District Council for the funding that made this project possible. I would like to thank our volunteers, councillors, and project partners for their dedication and hard work, which allowed us to remain open for most of the redevelopment.”
The reopening was marked by a special ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Chris Bowden, who shared her enthusiasm:
“It was a pleasure to officially reopen the Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre and see the results of such a carefully planned redevelopment. This project highlights the value of community-led heritage and the dedication of the volunteers and partners involved. Thanks to the support of Wychavon Council and the commitment of everyone who contributed, the Centre is now well placed to continue educating and inspiring residents and visitors for years to come.”
Mr Moyle, standing in for Lord Lieutenant Beatrice Grant and representative of The King, spoke about Droitwich as having a deep sense of civic pride, a strong sense of identity and a spirit of community which shone through in everything it did.
“There are so many good news stories about this ancient county town.
“Droitwich is not just a great place to live and work but to bring up families too.”
On the Heritage Centre he said: “This is a place that connects past with present and offers learning, inspiration and opportunity for all.
“This community asset speaks volume about the strength of Droitwich’s people and the deep-rooted sense of belonging that underpins the town’s ongoing success.”
Mr Huddleston said: “It’s fantastic to see continued investment in the Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre.
“Droitwich has a rich and unique history, and projects like this ensure that story is preserved and shared with future generations.”
“He added it was a pleasure to be at the opening and said: “This is about more than heritage – it’s about bringing people into the town, supporting local businesses and strengthening the community.
“It’s a great example of what can be achieved when there is real ambition and belief in the future of our town.”
We warmly invite you to visit the newly redeveloped Heritage Centre, explore our updated spaces, and experience the stories that make Droitwich Spa so unique.
